What is the difference of Beard Oil and Beard Balm?
One of the most common questions received when it comes to Beard Care!
What is a beard Oil?
A Beard Oil is a liquid oil that acts as a moisturizer and conditioning agent that helps stimulate beard growth. An oil absorbs easily and penetrates deep down and nourishes the hair and the skin under the beard, which will help soften the beard hair better. Getting the oil to also absorb into the skin is important, as having healthy skin is essential for a healthy looking beard. Our Beard Oils are specifically formulated to be light oils that absorb well leaving your beard hydrated and soft.
What is a Beard Balm?
A Beard Balm is also a moisturizing product, although is generally used on longer beards as a moisturizer and styling agent. Essentially it is used to add moisture while defining and shaping beards. Using a beard balm will help make your beard appear thicker and healthier. A wax barrier will also help lock in the moisture and protect your hair from the elements. The thicker or harder the balm, the more shape and hold it will deliver. Our balms are made to give a medium hold, as we have a good balance of hold while providing superior moisturizing.
Comparing Beard Oil and Beard Balm
So, while both an Oil and Balm can nourish the hairs, oil is essentially used for softening the beard hair and hydrating the skin, and a balm is used for styling and protecting the hairs from the elements and dehydration.
Should I use Beard Oil or Beard Balm?
For best results, we suggest that each beardsman use Beard Oil and Balms together. Using after a shower is the best time to apply product to your beard. After you use a cleanser in your beard you can strip and dry out a beard. After drying, while your beard is slightly damp apply beard oil and massage it deep down and into the skin. Then take a dime sized about of balm and warm it in your palm and apply to your beard. Finish up by using a boar brush to come out your beard and shape.
